Obama Calls Congressional Leaders to White House Thursday for Deficit Talks

President Obama on Tuesday invited the Congressional leadership from both parties to the White House on Thursday, saying that "greater progress is in sight" on a deal to raise the nation's debt limit and reduce the deficit.

Mr. Obama continued to insist that a final deal include a "balanced approach" that would include tax increases on wealthy individuals as well as trillions of dollars in spending cuts.

But he urged that all sides in the discussions on Thursday should "leave their ultimatums at the door" and he sounded an optimistic tone about the likelihood that an acceptable deal could be reached in the next two weeks.

Djokovic Outmuscles Nadal to Win Men's Final at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic of Serbia won the 2011 men's title at Wimbledon on Sunday, beating the defending champion, Rafael Nadal, in four sets.

Djokovic won the first two sets, 6-4 and 6-1; lost the third set, 1-6; and then took the fourth set, 6-3.

It was Nadal's first defeat at the All England Club in four years.

Until today, Djokovic, 24, who will become the new No. 1 on the ATP World Tour, had not beaten Nadal, a 25-year-old Spaniard, in a Grand Slam tournament. He had, however, beaten Nadal in all four of their previous meetings this year.

On Saturday, Petra Kvitova won her first Grand Slam title by beating Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4 in the women's final.
