America's Fiscal Future: On Wednesday, President Obama spoke at the George Washington University about his plan to control spending while staying true to America's values of shared prosperity and shared responsibility. After his speech, economic advisor Brian Deese answered your questions in a live video chat. The President's focus on fiscal policy continued as he met with bipartisan leaders from the House and Senate, and with the co-chairs of his fiscal commission.

Joining Forces: As part of the Obama Administration's commitment to America's military families, the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden launched their Joining Forces initiative, which will bring together all sectors of American society to lend a hand to military families. The President and Vice President joined them for the launch from the East Room of the White House.

West Wing Week: "Open for Business"

Taxpayer Receipt: In keeping with the promise President Obama made during his State of the Union to let every American see where their tax dollars are being spent, WhiteHouse.gov launched a taxpayer receipt. Plug in the amounts you pay for Social Security, Medicare, and income tax, and see it broken down penny by penny. To see the tax cuts and credits President Obama has signed into law, try the tax cut calculator.

Champions of Change: The White House recognized innovators from around the country who are helping create the future of American-made clean energy.

Clean Energy in Oregon: Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood reported back from Oregon, where United Streetcars is creating clean energy jobs and reducing traffic in cities.

1099 Repeal A Win for Small Business: The President signed a bill that repealed the 1099 reporting requirement for small businesses that was originally a part of the Affordable Care Act. SBA Administrator Karen Mills talked about the repeal's benefits for America's small businesses.

New FCC.gov: The FCC launched a new website to help their efforts at transparency. Check it out, and be sure to give them feedback!

Robots Help Japan Recovery: New robots produced in America are helping to assess the radiation threat from the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster.

Algae for Oil: Scientists at the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory came out with a new study showing how biofuels produced in the United States from algae could replace up to 17% of the oil we currently import from abroad.

Wrist Rattles and Baby Booties Recalled by Midwest-CBK Due to Choking Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Wrist Rattles and Baby Booties

Units: More than 10,000 wrist rattles and 11,000 pairs of baby booties in the United States and 600 wrist rattles and 700 pairs of baby booties in Canada

Importer: Midwest-CBK Inc., of Union City, Tenn.

Hazard: The pom-poms attached to the wrist rattles and booties can detach, posing a choking hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a pom-pom detaching from the wrist rattle. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the Monkeez & Friends(tm) wrist rattles and baby booties. The wrist rattles and the booties are made of knitted yarn and have a monkey head and a pom-pom attached. Both come in multiple color combinations.

Sold by: Gift stores, drug stores, décor outlets and variety stores nationwide from June 2009 through March 2011. The wrist rattles sold for about $5 and the booties sold for about $13.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these recalled products away from children and return them to the store where they were purchased or to Midwest-CBK for a full refund. If you are unable to return the product to the store where it was purchased, contact Midwest-CBK to receive a prepaid shipping label.

Hazard: Some heaters were manufactured without a required flame rollout switch, which is a back-up device that shuts down the heater in the event of a heater failure. This poses a fire hazard.

Description: This recall involves Lennox garage heaters with heating capacity, model number, and serial number listed below. The brand name "Lennox", the model number and the serial number can be found on the nameplate located inside the control cabinet.

As a member of the National Science Foundation’s Materials World Network, Hao Yan and his team at Arizona State University recently developed a new strategy to build nanostructures using DNA as a scaffold for assembly. The research is published in the April 15 issue of the journal ...
