Michael Steele Abandons Bid for Re-election as Republican Chairman

Michael Steele, the controversial chairman of the Republican
National Committee seeking a second term, withdrew after the
fourth round of balloting at a committee meeting in Maryland.
"Two years, we've had a good time," he said. "We've worked
hard, built a party. But it's very clear the party wants to
do something different."

Reince Priebus, chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party,
led the voting after four rounds but did not yet have enough
votes to win.
