CDC Vital Signs provides recent, comprehensive data on key indicators of important health topics for key diseases, conditions, or risk factors. The April 2011 Vital Signs presents information on teen pregnancy prevention in the US.
More than 400,000 teen girls, aged 15-19 years, give birth each year in the US. Although rates are at an all-time low, US rates are up to nine times higher than other developed countries. Teen childbearing has a high cost emotionally, physically and financially for the mother, child and community. Parents, educators, public health and medical professional all have a role to play in reducing teen pregnancy.
