Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) CDC Vital Signs Update: Latest Information on Hospital Support for Breastfeeding

CDC Vital Signs

CDC Vital Signs provides recent, comprehensive data on key indicators of important health topics for key diseases, conditions, or risk factors. The July 2011 Vital Signs presents information on Preventing Obesity Starting at Birth.

Childhood obesity is an epidemic and it is important to recognize that prevention can start at birth. Breastfeeding helps protect against childhood obesity and other illnesses.  A baby’s risk of becoming overweight goes down with each month of breastfeeding.

Hospitals play a vital role in supporting breastfeeding moms. One in three mothers stop breastfeeding early without hospital support.
