Pereira, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, received the honor for his actions in Afghanistan, Nov. 1, 2010. Pereira's father, Paolo; his mother, Denise; his wife, Candi; and his sister, Stephanie, attended the presentation. Pereira is the 165th Screaming Eagle Soldier to receive the award.
