Powertec Recalls Weight Workbenches Due to Injury Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Weight Workbenches

Units: About 565

Importer: Powertec, Inc., of Long Beach, Calif.

Hazard: The weld on the backrest adjustment brackets of the weight workbench can break, posing an injury hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Powertec is aware of one incident involving a minor injury.

Description: The recalled workbenches are free-standing and typically used for free weight workouts. They have black, square tube, steel bases with a jet black, vinyl, adjustable bench seat and backrest. "Powertec" is embossed on the backrest pad and printed on a sticker located on the upright or the base frame of the workbench. Model names and numbers included in this recall are listed in the table below. The model name and number are located on the product's packaging.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the product until they order and install a free safety retrofit repair kit. Consumers can also return the product for a full refund.

Target Recalls Hand-Held Air Misters Due to Injury Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Air Mister

Units: About 168,000

Importer: Target Corp., of Minneapolis, Minn.

Hazard: The Air Mister can shatter during use, posing an injury hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Target has received three reports of incidents of misters shattering, including one in which a consumer received lacerations.

Description: The recall is for hand-held devices designed to spray a mist for personal cooling. The Air Misters are 8 inches tall and hold 2 ounces of water at the "Fill" line. They are clear plastic cylinders with colored tops and bases. The tops and bases come in black, blue, green and pink. A nylon carrying strap is attached to the tops. Instructions for use are written in white lettering on the outside of the clear plastic cylinder.

Sold exclusively at: Target stores nationwide from February 2012 to May 2012 for approximately $2.50.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled misters and return them to any Target store for a full refund.
