Announcing the Launch of CDC’s Pinterest Account | | CDCgov joins millions of pinners around the country with an official presence on Pinterest, a virtual pinboard sharing site. On Pinterest, CDCgov will share inspiring images and important health information through boards covering topics such as women’s health, healthy living, emergency preparedness, tobacco prevention, public health history and more! We are excited to have an additional social media channel to interact with you on the latest in health news and information. | What exactly is Pinterest? Pinterest is a social media platform that allows users to share compelling images found on websites in a photo sharing environment. It allows sorting, collecting, and categorizing of pictures and topics. Users of Pinterest share what they like by: - Posting new content,
- Liking other user’s content (similar to Facebook likes)
- Re-pinning other’s content to their page (similar to Facebook shares or Twitter retweets)
- Adding comments to pins of images
Note that users can follow all of another person’s or brands’ boards or just specific boards. They also have the ability to view boards based on a subject, topic, or theme. Who Uses Pinterest? Currently 80% of pinners are women and 60% are 25-44 years of age. Fifty-percent of users have children and 87% have at least some college education. Forty percent of users have an income of $50,000—$75,000. Pinterest currently has 10.5 million users and is rapidly growing. It has about 12 million unique visitors a month[i]. Why is CDC joining Pinterest? We wanted to provide an additional channel for our readers to share our public health infographics, images and tips. We want to always be part of the conversation about health in social media and present wherever our audience is. Pinterest is the third fastest growing social network and we decided it was time to join the conversation there. Follow us on Pinterest and re-pin your favorite CDCgov images and health information to share with friends and loved ones. Let us know the kinds of things you’d like to see on the CDCgov Pinterest account by leaving us comments on our pins. We look forward to hearing from you.
