Several typhoons threaten the island each year, but military personnel can quickly secure their equipment and aircraft from the damaging winds. 07/08/2014 12:48 PM CDT U.S. airmen prepare to deploy from Kadena Air Base, Japan, to the Rim of the Pacific Exercise on July 6, 2014. The airmen deployed earlier than planned due to a massive typhoon predicted to hit Okinawa with wind gusts nearing 200 mph.
