Monitoring the Public’s Health: Using Data from the National Center for Health Statistics

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is pleased to announce participation in the Continuing Education program at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA). This year’s NCHS “Learning Institute” will be conducted on Saturday, November 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the APHA meeting site in Denver, Colorado. NCHS hopes that you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the wealth of NCHS data and resources and to interact with analysts from each of the major NCHS program areas.

 

Participants will be introduced to the portfolio of NCHS datasets, including those of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, National Health Care Surveys, National Health Interview Surveys, National Survey of Family Growth, and National Vital Statistics Systems. Data collection methods, analytic considerations, and methods of data access will be discussed. Examples of how NCHS data have been used to understand the population’s health, influences on health, health outcomes, and health care access and use will be presented. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and seek guidance on their particular information needs.

 

Session attendees qualify for six continuing education credits.
