Financier Steven L. Rattner to Pay $10 Million in Restitution, Cuomo Says

The investment banker Steven L. Rattner agreed on Thursday to
pay $10 million to settle influence peddling accusations in
New York.

The New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo had initially
sought $26 million in fines and penalties and a lifetime ban
from the securities industry.

As part of the deal, Mr. Rattner admitted no wrongdoing, but
did agree to a five-year ban from appearing in any capacity
before any public pension fund within the state.

Mr. Cuomo's office had filed civil lawsuits against Mr.
Rattner in November, accusing him of paying kickbacks to help
his company land $150 million in state pension fund
investments in 2004 and 2005. He had denied the charges.
