CDC Vital Signs provides recent, comprehensive data on key indicators of important health topics for key diseases, conditions, or risk factors. The July 2011 Vital Signs presents information on colorectal cancer screening.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading killer in the US among cancers that affect both men and women. Men and women of all racial and ethnic groups are at risk for colorectal cancer, and it is most often found in people ages 50 years or older. Screening can save lives by finding cancer early, when treatment works best. Although the percentage of adults screened increased 13% from 2002 to 2010, about 1 in 3 adults between the ages of 50 and 75 are not up-to-date on recommended screening for colorectal cancer.
