Novak Djokovic Defeats Rafael Nadal in U.S. Open Men's Final
Novak Djokovic defeated defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 to capture the men's U.S. Open title, further establishing Djokovic as the No. 1 player in the world.
Djokovic raced out to an early lead, dominating the first set and containing Nadal in the second to take a two set to none advantage. Nadal was able to win a dramatic third set that saw the two exchange long points and service breaks, but Djokovic ultimately proved to be too powerful for Nadal and cruised to win the fourth set and the championship.
It has been a career year for Djokovic, who has won 10 tournaments and 64 matches, beating up on the best in tennis repeatedly, including Nadal in Wimbledon earlier this year.
