Troy-Bilt Electric Leaf Blowers Recalled by MTD Due to Laceration Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Consumers should stop using this product unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

 

Recall Summary

 

Name of Product: Troy-Bilt electric leaf blowers

 

Hazard: The blower’s impeller can break and strike the operator during use, posing a laceration hazard.

 

Remedy: Replace

Recall Details

 

Units: About 134,000

Description: This recall involves Troy-Bilt electric leaf blowers with model TB180B, item number 41BA180G966 and serial numbers ranging from S1D111XK0001 through S1F152XK2008.  They were manufactured between April 11, 2011 and June 15, 2012. The third through sixth characters of the serial number identify the manufacturing date.  The third character is the month, for example D for April, E for May and F for June. The fourth and fifth characters are the day of the month. The sixth character is the last digit of the year of manufacture. Model, item and serial number are located on a white label on the bottom of motor housing. The 7.5 amp electric blowers are red. Troy-Bilt and TB180B appear on a sticker on both sides of the unit.

 

Incidents/Injuries: MTD has received 17 incident reports, including 12 injuries that resulted in lacerations requiring stitches, cuts and bruises.

 

Remedy:  Consumers should stop using the recalled blowers immediately. Lowe’s customers should return them to Lowe’s for a free replacement.  Consumers who bought their blowers online at www.troybilt.com should contact Troy-Bilt for a free replacement.

Sold at: Lowe’s stores nationwide and online at www.troybilt.com from May 2011 through November 2013 for about $34.

They were manufactured between May 13, 2011 and May 16, 2012. The third through sixth characters of the serial number identify the manufacturing date.  The third character is the month, for example D for April, E for May and F for June. The fourth and fifth characters are the day of the month. The sixth character is the last digit of the year of manufacture. Model, item and serial number are located on a white label on the bottom of motor housing. The 7.5 amp electric blowers are black. Remington, Mighty Sweep and RM180B appear on a sticker on both sides of the unit.

 

Incidents/Injuries: One incident has been reported by MTD and that incident resulted in cuts and bruises.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled blowers immediately and contact Remington for a free replacement.

 

Sold at: Various retailers nationwide and online at mtdproducts.com from May 2011 through December 2013 for between $30 and $40.

E-Z-GO Recalls Golf, Shuttle, Off-Road Utility Vehicles Due to Crash Hazard

Recall Summary

 

Name of Product: Golf cars, shuttles and off-road utility vehicles

 

Hazard: The steering wheel nut may not have been tightened sufficiently, reducing the driver’s steering control. This can result in a crash.

 

Remedy: Repair

Units: About 30,000

 

Description: This recall involves E-Z-GO, Cushman and Bad Boy Buggies brand gas- and electric-powered, four-wheeled vehicles with bench seats for the driver and passengers. Recalled E-Z-GO and Cushman vehicles have serial numbers from 2823208 to 2850425 and from 3000001 to 3003187. Bad Boy Buggies vehicles have serial numbers from 8005089 to 8006013. The brand and model names are printed on the side and front panels of the vehicles. Serial numbers are printed on a plate or label inside the cab below the driver’s seat.  

The following vehicles are being recalled:

•             E-Z-GO TXT Fleet golf cars

•             E-Z-GO Freedom TXT, Shuttle 2+2 TXT and Valor personal golf cars all with one bench seat and one rear-facing seat

•             E-Z-GO Express with two bench seats and one rear-facing seat,

•             E-Z-GOTerrain with a cargo bed

•             Cushman Shuttle vehicles

•             Bad Boy Buggies HD, LD, LTO, and LT Safari utility vehicles

 

 

Incidents/Injuries: The firm is aware of one incident reportedly involving an insufficiently tightened steering wheel nut and reduced steering control, in which the vehicle went over a curb and a passenger received a chipped tooth.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact E-Z-GO or an authorized dealer for a free repair. E-Z-GO and E-Z-GO dealers are already contacting known owners.

 

Sold at: E-Z-GO, Cushman and Bad Boy Buggies dealers nationwide from August 2012 through February 2013 for between $6,650 and $10,650.

Excalibur Recalls Crossbows Due to Injury Hazard; Can Fire Unexpectedly

Recall Summary

 

Name of Product: Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 Crossbows

 

Hazard: The crossbow can fire an arrow without the trigger being pulled, posing an injury hazard to the user and to bystanders.

 

Remedy: Repair

Recall Details

 

Units: About 1,000

 

Description: This recall involves the Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 crossbows. Matrix 405 is printed on a label on the left side of the stock. The crossbow was sold in a mossy oak treestand camouflage pattern. The crossbow measures about 36 inches long and was sold individually or as part of a package with a black scope, four-arrow quiver and bracket, four arrows, four 150-grain field points and a rope-cocking aid.

 

Incidents/Injuries: Excalibur has received one report of the crossbow firing unexpectedly. No injuries have been reported.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled crossbows and return them to the place of purchase to return to Excalibur for a free inspection and repair, or contact Excalibur for instructions on shipping the product directly to Excalibur for a free repair.  Excalibur will pay for shipping.

 

Sold at: Sporting goods stores nationwide including A-1 Archery, Black Sheep Sporting Goods, Cabelas, H & H Archery Supply, Horizontal Archery, Jay’s Sporting Goods, Kinsey’s Archery Products, Mike’s Archery, Pape’s, Sportsman’s Supply and Woody’s Sporting Goods from February 2014 through March 2014 for about $1,000 for the crossbow and $1,400 when sold as a package with the crossbow, arrows, a scope and other equipment.
