Marines execute the endurance course on Camp Lejeune, N.C., July 30, 2014. The endurance course is a 3.4-mile path through the woods that winds through swamps, creeks and obstacles to test endurance and ability to work as a team. The Marines are assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment.

Mike Oldham, a Navy veteran, pauses as he experiences a Tyrolean traverse on the top of the area known as "Jurassic Park" during a USO-sponsored rock-climbing camp at Estes Park, Colo., Aug. 2, 2014. USO partnered with Team Red, White and Blue to provide opportunities for veterans. A Tyrolean traverse is a method of crossing through free space between two high points on a rope.
