New CDC Vital Signs Report: Latest Information on HIV Testing

CDC Vital Signs

CDC Vital Signs provides recent, comprehensive data on key indicators of important health topics for key diseases, conditions, or risk factors. The December 2010 Vital Signs presents information on HIV testing in the US.

An estimated 1.1 million people are living with HIV in the US and as many as one in five don’t know they are infected. Treatment for HIV is most effective before symptoms develop and slows the infection and can extend life.  Although testing recommendations vary, those at increased risk for HIV should get an HIV test at least once a year.
