Motorized Awnings Recalled by Somfy Systems Due to Shock Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Motorized Awnings

Units: About 4,600

Importer: Somfy Systems Inc., of Dayton, N.J.

Hazard: The awning motor's power cable can be severed while the awning is opened or closed manually, posing a risk of electrical shock to the user.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves the Sunea CMO RTS motor used to operate retractable awnings. The awning motor heads are silver and black-colored. "Somfy" is printed on the motor head. Motor heads that are entirely black in color are not included in this recall. The Sunea CMO RTS model numbers included in this recall are 525A2, 535A2 and 550R2. The model number is printed on a label on the motor tube.

Sold at: Awning dealers and retailers nationwide from December 2009 through September 2010.

Manufactured in: France

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using recalled awning motors and the awning's manual crank and unplug and/or pull the circuit breaker to protect against anyone using the awning. Contact Somfy Systems to receive free installation of a replacement awning motor.

Full Speed Ahead Crank Sets Used By Numerous Bicycle Manufacturers Recalled Due To Crash Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Full Speed Ahead BB30 Gossamer crank sets installed on numerous makers of bicycles

Units: About 9,300

Importer: Full Speed Ahead, of Woodinville, Wash.

Manufacturer: TH Industries, of Taiwan

Hazard: If the fixing bolt is over-tightened on the non-drive crank arm, the bolt shoulder can crack or break. If this occurs, the non-drive arm can fall off the bicycle causing the rider to crash and suffer injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: Full Speed Ahead has received 11 reports of incidents, including two cases where injuries have been reported.

Description: A crank set is the component of the bicycle that the chain and pedals attach to for pedaling. The recalled models are either painted black with "Gossamer" printed in white on the arm or white with "Gossamer" printed in black on the arm. There are two drive gears (referred to as "double") on the crank set. The recalled crank arms were assembled as original equipment on the following bicycle models:

Gossamer BB30 non-drive crank arms that are included in the recall have serial numbers beginning with 10B, 10C, and 10D. Serial numbers are located on the backside of the crank arm by pedal threads (see pictures below).

Note: MegaExo model Gossamer cranksets and Gossamer BB30 cranksets with three drive gears (referred to as "triple" cranksets) are not involved in this recall.

Sold as: Assembled as standard original equipment on the bicycles listed. Sold by independent bicycle retailers nationwide from February 2010 through October 2010.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles that have the recalled crank arm sets and return bicycle to the dealer. The dealer will install the new non-drive crank arm free of charge.

Children's Hooded Jackets and Sweatshirts with Drawstrings Recalled By VOS Sports Due To Strangulation Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Hooded jackets and sweatshirts

Units: About 11,700

Distributor: VOS Sports Inc., City of Industry, Calif.

Hazard: The children's hooded sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood and/or waist that can pose a strangulation or entrapment hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) , which were incorporated into an industry voluntary standard in 1997, to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves all children's hooded sweatshirts and nylon hooded jackets with drawstring sold under the brand name "VOS Sports." The sweatshirt and jackets were sold in assorted sizes including S-M or L and in up to 14 colors. "VOS Sports" and "RN#94353" are printed on the sewn-in label.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts and jackets to eliminate the hazard or contact VOS Sports Inc. for instructions on how to return the item for a full refund.
