  URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 716 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 1235 PM EDT MON OCT 25 2010  THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF          CENTRAL/EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA        SOUTHEAST VIRGINIA        COASTAL WATERS  EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 1235 PM UNTIL 800 PM EDT.  HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.  THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 95 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 55 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF NORFOLK VIRGINIA TO 20 MILES SOUTHWEST OF JACKSONVILLE NORTH CAROLINA. REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.  OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 712...WW 713...WW 714...WW 715...  DISCUSSION...AIDED BY A GRADUALLY DESTABILIZING BOUNDARY LAYER...STRONG/SEVERE TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO STEADILY INCREASE AND SPREAD EAST-NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS CENTRAL/EASTERN NC AND SOUTHEAST VA THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON. SCENARIO IS FAVORABLE FOR SMALL BOWING SEGMENTS/PERHAPS A FEW SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF PRIMARILY DAMAGING WINDS...ALONG WITH SEVERE HAIL AS WELL.
